William Jefferson White House is a three-story residential building that houses 110 students in double-occupancy rooms. It is one of the four buildings in the “Quad” and is only a few feet away from the Fredrick Douglass Learning Resource Center. It is also home to the Morehouse ROTC Yellow Ribbon Program Center of Excellence, housing all ROTC students.

The son of a slave, Rev. William Jefferson White founded Augusta Institute, which would become Morehouse College, at Springfield Baptist Church in Augusta, GA. He served as a trustee of the young college. Even before the Civil War, he opened a secret night school. After the war, he was appointed educational agent of the Freedmen’s Bureau and also served as a trustee of Atlanta University. He co-founded and served as president of the Colored Georgia Baptist Sunday School Convention. A journalist, he advocated an end to Jim Crow, voting rights, and educational access and was the first manager of what would become the largest Black-owned printing office in the country. His life was threatened for his advocacy
