GRANTS
When deciding on attending our Atlanta University, there are two primary types of grant aid programs available: Federal and state. The federal grant programs include Pell, SEOG grants. State grant programs include Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant and Georgia College Completion Grant.
Types of Grants
Federal Grants
Pell
The Pell Grant is the largest federal grant program offered to undergraduates and is designed to assist students from low-income households. A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid, except under certain circumstances. To qualify for a Pell Grant, a student must demonstrate financial need through the Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid (FAFSA®) form.
Pell Grant Eligibility is also calculated by Enrollment Intensity. Enrollment intensity is the percentage of full-time enrollment at which a student is enrolled, rounded to the nearest whole percent. For example, if full-time enrollment is 12 credit hours and the student is enrolled in 7 hours, the enrollment intensity would be 7 ÷ 12 × 100% = 58.3% (round to 58%). Please see the chart below of the percentage calculations based upon credit hour enrollments.
FSEOG
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) program is for undergraduates with exceptional financial need. Pell Grant recipients with the lowest expected family contributions (EFC) will be considered first for an FSEOG. FSEOG does not have to be repaid. You can receive between $100 and $4,000 a year, depending on when you apply, your financial need, and federal funding.
State Grants
GEORGIA TUITION EQUALIZATION GRANT (GTEG)
The Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant is funded by the State of Georgia for eligible students who meet the residency status, academic classification, minimum academic load, and other eligibility requirements. The amount awarded is determine by state legislature each year. All eligible Georgia Residents must be enrolled in 12 or more credit hours.
GEORGIA COLLEGE COMPLETION GRANT
The Georgia College Completion Grant (GCCG) assists eligible students enrolled at an eligible postsecondary institution that is experiencing a financial aid gap with their cost of education.
Eligible students must have completed at least eighty (80) percent of credit requirements for graduation from their enrolled certificate, diploma or undergraduate major or program of study. Eligible students must owe their institution for an outstanding balance of direct costs for the current term of enrollment.
PUBLIC SAFETY MEMORIAL GRANT (GPSM)
The Georgia Public Safety Memorial (GPSM) Grant provides grant funds to the dependent children of Georgia Public Safety Officers who were permanently disabled or killed in the line of duty. Funds may be used towards the cost of attendance at eligible colleges, universities or technical colleges in Georgia.
