    Inclement Weather

    Stay Informed. Stay Connected

During inclement weather at Morehouse College, it is essential to prioritize safety by staying indoors and following any official advisories. Students and staff should be aware of emergency procedures, such as seeking shelter in designated safe areas away from windows, and monitoring local weather updates for potential delays or cancellations of events. Additionally, having an emergency kit prepared can help ensure readiness for severe weather conditions.

To ensure you stay informed and connected, we advise the following:

    • Review the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for ongoing weather updates and resources as you prepare yourselves.
    • If you have not already, please subscribe to the Campus Safety emergency notification system - AlertAware. You can confirm your subscription to the campus alert system by following these steps:
      • Log in to MyPortal and select Banner Web
      • On the Banner Web homepage, select Emergency Alert option, then input your desired phone number to receive phone calls and/or text message updates from the College. A maximum of three (3) phone numbers can be added to receive text and voice notifications.
      • Note: It is the responsibility of all Morehouse employees and students to maintain up-to-date contact information in Banner Web.
      • If you have any technical questions, please contact Morehouse Information Technology Services at servicedesk@morehouse.edu.

    Residential Students

Be advised of the following while we navigate the storm conditions on campus:

    • Prepare a "Go" Bag:  In the case of an emergency evacuation, pack an easy-to-carry bag with the following suggested items - blanket, pillow, medications, water, flashlights and batteries, personal hygiene & sanitation products, plug-in and portable chargers, snack, and non-perishable food items. In the case of a power outage, use non-flammable forms of lighting to prevent a potential safety hazard.
    • Protect & Secure your room and belongings: Place all items inside drawers or closets, including tabletop items such as papers, books, etc. In case of flooding, remove items from the floor, including shoes, rugs, suitcases, bags, etc. Unplug ALL electronics and remove them from the floor.
    • Shelter in place until otherwise advised to evacuate. Emergency management team members and campus safety officials are in consistent communication with Georgia and City of Atlanta personnel to ensure your well-being and safety. They will communicate with you if there is a need to vacate to another location. Otherwise, please stay indoors throughout the storm and do not open exterior-facing doors or windows.
    • Residential students evacuating off-campus should inform their Resident Advisor or Community Director of their end destination.
    • At the peak of the storm, close and cover all doors and windows and shelter in the hallways for maximum protection, unless otherwise advised by an authority of the College.
    • Report damage to any building to Campus Operations by calling 470-639-0475 or 678-469-9043. You may also refer the issue to your Resident Advisor or Community Director.
    • In an on-campus emergency, call 404-215-2666 to route directly to the Fulton County Police Department.
    • For on-campus, non-emergency incidents, call Morehouse College Campus Safety at 470-639-0604.

    Off-campus Students, Faculty, & Staff

Your safety is our top priority, too. Please adhere to the recommended safety protocols from your living community, apartment complex, or regional authorities. Stay informed by keeping an eye on local news for updates on weather and conditions in your area. If you can, avoid driving as high wind gusts, heavy rain, and potential flash flooding can make roads treacherous. Always follow the advice and instructions from local emergency services to stay safe.

Again, as you brace yourselves for the storm, we encourage you to base your actions on reliable news sources and authorities listed above. Campus  updates will be available at morehouse.edu and will be sent via AlertAware
