Meet Dr. Mathis

Bio

Dr. Quisha Mathis serves as Director of the Frederick Douglass Academic Success Center at Morehouse College, where she provides strategic leadership for academic support services that promote student persistence, achievement, and graduation. Guided by the philosophy of Operational Excellence at the Center of Academic Success, she strengthens systems, processes, and partnerships that meaningfully and measurably improve student outcomes. With extensive experience in academic coaching, student success initiatives, and higher education leadership, Dr. Mathis is recognized for her student-centered approach, data-informed decision-making, and commitment to fostering a culture of accountability, support, and academic excellence.

Dr. Mathis earned her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee. Her scholarly interests include student success, academic persistence, learning support systems, disability disclosure in higher education, and outcomes for historically underserved student populations, particularly Black men at HBCUs. Her doctoral research examined the relationship between learning disability disclosure and academic outcomes among Black male students at an HBCU, contributing to ongoing conversations about access, equity, and student achievement. Dr. Mathis is known for building collaborative partnerships across campus and with external stakeholders. Dr. Mathis is committed to advancing institutional strategies that empower students to develop effective learning habits, overcome barriers to success, and achieve their highest academic potential.
