    About the Professor

Michael Gumm the Director of Admissions and Recruitment and an Adjunct Professor in the Sociology Department at Morehouse College.

Born and raised in Chicago, IL, Michael Gumm embarked on a transformative journey that led him to a prominent role in higher education. After graduating from Greenforest Christian Academy in Decatur, GA, in 2006, Michael pursued his higher education at Morehouse College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy in May 2010. During his time at Morehouse, he not only excelled academically but also served as a Student Ambassador, a role that ignited his passion for education and mentoring.

Following graduation, Michael began his career at Morehouse College as an Assistant Director of Admissions. It was here that he discovered his fervor for guiding young Black men and supporting their academic journeys. This passion motivated him to further his education at Clark Atlanta University, where he earned a Master of Arts Degree in Sociology in May 2019.

Michael’s career at Morehouse College continued to flourish as he was promoted to Senior Recruitment Manager for the inaugural Morehouse Online Program. His dedication and innovative strategies in this role led to his advancement to Director of Admissions and Recruitment. In this capacity, Michael manages a dynamic recruitment team and implements various strategies to enhance enrollment, contributing to the college's revenue stability and growth.

In addition to his administrative achievements, Michael has expanded his impact by serving as an adjunct professor in Sociology at Morehouse College. He teaches two courses—Introduction to Sociology and Social Problems—where he supports faculty and contributes to student retention and engagement.

Outside of his professional life, Michael is a devoted father of four and is married to Summayyah, who is currently pursuing her studies at Spelman College. Michael's commitment to his family, his students, and his community reflects his unwavering dedication to fostering educational excellence and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those around him.
