Bio
The Rev. Dr. Jason R. Curry ’92 is the second Dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College, a position he assumed on June 15, 2026. A nationally respected pastor, educator, scholar, and higher education administrator, Dean Curry leads one of the most influential spiritual and moral centers in higher education, building upon the legacy established by the Chapel’s founding dean, The Rev. Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter Sr. As a student at Morehouse, he accepted his call to gospel ministry while serving as a Chapel Assistant under the mentorship of Dean Carter, an experience that profoundly shaped his vocation and leadership journey.
A proud Morehouse alumnus, Dr. Curry earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religion from Morehouse College, a Master of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School, and both an Executive MBA and a Ph.D. in Religion and Personality from Vanderbilt University.
Prior to his appointment at Morehouse, Dr. Curry served for more than two decades at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was Dean of the Fisk Memorial Chapel, Senior Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, Assistant Professor of Religion, and Director of Religious Life. In these roles, he provided strategic leadership for the university’s spiritual life programs, academic initiatives, and student development efforts. He also founded and advised the Fisk Memorial Chapel Assistants and the Leaders of the Interfaith Fellow Team, strengthening student leadership and interfaith engagement across the campus community.
An accomplished higher education leader, Dr. Curry has served on the President’s Cabinet, Senior Leadership Team, and Provost’s Council at Fisk University. Throughout his career, he has secured more than $5 million in grants and philanthropic support and has developed initiatives that expanded graduate and professional school pathways for students attending institutions such as Yale University, Princeton Theological Seminary, Vanderbilt University, and Harvard University. He also played a key role in implementing data-informed enrollment management strategies that contributed to sustained growth in student enrollment and institutional revenue.
Before becoming Dean of the Fisk Memorial Chapel, Dr. Curry served in several senior administrative positions, including Special Assistant to the President and Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation at Fisk University. He also held leadership roles in institutional research and assessment at both Fisk University and Kentucky State University.
In addition to his distinguished career in higher education, Dr. Curry has devoted his life to ministry and pastoral leadership. He previously served as Senior Pastor of St. Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Throughout his ministry, he has remained committed to cultivating communities of faith, scholarship, justice, and service.
Dr. Curry is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and has maintained strong ties to Morehouse College and the Atlanta University Center throughout his career. He and his wife, Angela, a graduate of Spelman College, are the proud parents of three children, all graduates of Morehouse College and Spelman College.
As Dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel, Dr. Curry continues to advance the institution’s mission at the intersection of faith, scholarship, leadership, and social justice while inspiring future generations to embody Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of the Beloved Community.
