Bio
Dr. Herman Holt serves as Dean of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Division at Morehouse College. A distinguished higher education leader and scholar, Holt brings more than 25 years of experience advancing academic excellence, student success, faculty development, and research innovation.
Before joining Morehouse, Holt held several senior leadership positions at the University of North Carolina Asheville, including Chief Research Officer, Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dean of Natural Sciences, and Dean of Special and Graduate Programs. In these roles, he provided strategic leadership for academic affairs, research administration, graduate education, faculty advancement, and institutional planning. He also served as Senior Advisor for Research at the UNC System Office from 2019 to 2020, helping to shape research initiatives and funding opportunities across North Carolina’s public university system.
A professor of chemistry, Holt has held numerous faculty leadership roles, including Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Co-Director of Undergraduate Research, and Faculty Athletics Representative. His academic expertise is in organic chemistry, and his research focused on small-molecule organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry.
