About the Professor
Dr. David A. Poyer came to Morehouse College in the fall of 2002 as an associate professor of economics where he has taught both principles of macroeconomics and microeconomics, macroeconomic theory, basic statistics, and econometrics, and more recently economic doctrines and U.S. economic history.
Poyer was born and raised in Albany NY. He received a B.S. degree in chemistry from Howard University and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Buffalo. He is the proud husband of Pepper Poyer and the proud father of Nikki, Michelle, and David G.,who is now a distinguished Morehouse man.
Poyer likes to tell people he is from the Midwest where he has lived most of his life and where he has raised his family. He worked over 20 years at the Argonne National Laboratory just outside of Chicago, IL. For most of that time, he was principle investigator for the Socioeconomic Analysis and Research Program. In that capacity, Poyer conducted and managed research assessing the impact of energy policy, programs, and activities on different demographic groups, on which he has written widely.
Along with teaching, he is currently doing applied macro research in area of economic activity and the effect of changing household balance sheets on it. Poyer loves the classroom and his students. His objective is to continually become a better teacher and role model for his students.
