What is Africa Awareness Week?
Africa Awareness Week (AAW) is a global initiative fostering dialogue, collaboration, and action to strengthen connections between Africa and its diaspora. Established over 30 years ago at Morehouse College, AAW brings together scholars, leaders, students, and innovators to engage in critical discussions on Africa’s development, history, and future.
Each year, AAW explores key themes in politics, economics, technology, culture, and sustainability, providing a platform for: In-depth panel discussions with global experts, Cultural showcases celebrating African heritage and Innovative projects driving real-world change .
With a legacy of impactful collaborations, AAW continues to be a leading force in shaping Africa’s narrative and future opportunities.

ABOUT AAW
For over 30 years, Morehouse's Africa Awareness Week (AAW) has engaged students in meaningful projects across the African continent. Guided by principles that emphasize positive narratives, integrated learning, and tangible outcomes, AAW has successfully executed impactful programs including reforestation brigades, the Morehouse Pan-African Global Experience (MPAGE) study abroad and research initiatives, and a solar energy project funded by the National Science Foundation in partnership with Kwame Nkrumah UniversityCollaborations with other institutions, faculty members, and students from various universities through tour working in relationship with the National African Student Association have enriched our efforts through workshops and service-learning opportunities.
Our initiative signals that we are not just followers of the global discourse, but that we are social change agents who’s efforts are rooted in action.

OUR MISSION
Our motto is “We are here to learn, we are not here to teach”. Our Guiding Principles Include:
- Pushing the Positive: This is an opportunity to reframe the international discourse centered around Africa. We are here engage in dialogue that tackles complex socio-political issues and offers an opportunity to view complex issues through another lense.
- Integrated Learning: Engage with subject matter experts who are involved with real world projects that are addressing systemic issues associated with long standing issues on the continent
- Tangible Initiatives with Measurable Outcomes: Turn energy and knowledge into concrete action and results
