Our Mission Statement

The Morehouse Center for Excellence in Education (MCEE) is an extension to the college’s Education Department. MCEE is a vibrant hub that offers a range of dynamic opportunities that enrich the experiences of our students, faculty, and staff. The students and stakeholders who engage in the research activities, initiatives, and activities offered by MCEE are well-equipped to make meaningful impact that extends far beyond the classroom and campus. 

The “Why” Behind Our Mission

mcee_why_2 At the Morehouse Center for Excellence in Education (MCEE), we are driven by the urgent need to address critical challenges in education that impact students, educators, and communities across the nation.

The Need for Representation and Diversity in Education Leadership: Education is more impactful when students see leaders who reflect their experiences and identities. Yet, Black male teachers account for less than 2% of the U.S. educator workforce, leaving a significant gap in representation and mentorship opportunities for young learners.
Systemic Inequities in Historically Marginalized Communities: Many students in underrepresented communities face persistent barriers to quality education, limiting their potential and reinforcing cycles of inequity. MCEE is committed to dismantling these barriers by fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments.
The Growing Demand for 21st-Century Instructional Strategies: As education evolves, there is an increasing need for innovative approaches that prepare students for a rapidly changing world. MCEE equips educators with cutting-edge tools and strategies to meet these challenges head-on.

By addressing these critical issues, MCEE is not just preparing educators to excel—it is building a more equitable and inclusive future for students and communities nationwide.
