    About Our Study Abroad Program

    • Program Types

      PROGRAM TYPES

      Direct Programs

      • Experiences provided by one of our five external partners. Available in the fall, spring, and summer term. These programs can range from a few weeks to a full semester. You may have the opportunity to intern or volunteer while abroad. Externally funded scholarships may be used to fund direct programs. Institutional scholarships may not be used to towards direct programs.

      Exchange Programs

      • Experience provided by the ISEP Exchange Program. A student pays Morehouse to receive the same accommodations at their institution abroad. You must live on campus and have an unlimited meal plan to be eligible. Both institutional and external scholarships may be applied to an exchange program. Currently, exchange programs are only available in the spring semester.

      Faculty-Led Programs

      • Short-term programs led by faculty. They may be credit-bearing. These trips range from 1-4 weeks. Faculty-led programs often occur during school breaks, including J-Mester, spring break, and summer.

      Getting Started   

      • Attend aStudy Abroad Information Session 
      • Every Wednesday at 3 pm in Massey, 440 
      • Apply for passport,if necessary 
      • Processing times may range from 7-13 weeks  
      • Take advantage of theDelta Airlines Passport Assistance Programfor $165 reimbursement of your fees (available to Morehouse students only) 
      • Researchand select programs 
      • Compare programs types to find what’s right for you 
      • Identify your top two program choices 
      • Note: Exchange programs are only available in the spring semester  
      • Meet with apeer advisorto help narrow down your options  
      • Schedule anOIE advising appointmentto solidify your program choice 
      • Advising is required to participate in an external partner program 
      • Home authorizations for external partner applications will not be granted prior to advising  

      Application Process 

      • Complete your Study Abroad Course Request Form 
      • Cross-reference available courses at your chosen program abroad with the requirements in your Morehouse degree plan 
      • Complete the following: student details (top section), links to host institution syllabus, course information, credit hours (U.S. equivalent) and requested Morehouse College equivalents  
      • Once you fill out the form, obtain your academic advisor’s signature  
      • Note: your study abroad application will not be considered if the Study Abroad Course Request Form is incomplete or inaccurate  
      • CompleteapplicationsonStudy Abroad Portalby OIE deadlines 
        Spring 2026 Deadline: October 2, 2025 
      • Apply through Morehouse via Study Abroad Portal and ensure status shows“Application Submitted” 
      • Apply throughexternal providers (Note: due dates may be earlier than Morehouse deadline and some partners may collect an application fee)  
      • Apply forscholarships 
      • Top scholarships includeThe Benjamin A Gilman Scholarship, Fund for Education Abroad, Joy Worldwide and more 

      Post Submission 

      • Attend OIE Next Steps Session  
      • Commit to program in theStudy Abroad Portal and through your external provider 
      • Explore visa and documentation requirements   
      • If you have questions, please reach out to your external provider  
      • Refer to ISEP’s Country Handbook for further guidance  
      • Fill out theStudy Abroad Financial Aid Verification Formand submit it to the Financial Aid Office(fall and spring semester only) 
      • Once the form is returned to you by Financial Aid, upload to yourStudy Abroad Portal 
      • Consult residence life regarding current and future housing needs(fall and spring semester only) 
      • Reviewtravel health informationand completehealth travel clearance forms(fall and spring semester only) 
      • Upload onPoint and Click 
      • Email Ms. Brittany Talbott atbtalbott@msm.eduto confirm submission 
      • If applicable, complete post-submission tasks for external provider (travel documents, course information, etc.) 
      • Familiarize yourself with yourdestination country 

      Pre-Departure   

      While Abroad  

      • Contact oie@morehouse.edu upon safe arrival to host country 
      • Confirm final course list once registration is completed at your host institution  
      • Send a shared album of photos/videos during your time abroad and update it regularly  
      • Volunteer for an @MorehouseOIE Instagram takeover  
      • Check your Morehouse email weekly to keep up with important information on campus 
      Post-Program  
      • Email oie@morehouse.edu upon safe return 
      • Complete Study Abroad Survey and OIE post-program tasks on Study Abroad Portal 
      • Participate in the Annual Study Abroad Fair and International Education Symposium 
      • Apply to become an OIE Ambassador (paid opportunity!) 

      Important Notes

      • Students studying abroad for a fall or spring semester must be classified as a sophomore or junior during their time abroad. All classifications are eligible to participate in summer external partner programs.  
      • We recommend students begin planning their external partner program trips at least two semesters in advance. 
      • Students may not select or apply to semester-long study abroad programs that are not on the College's approved list or through existing external partners (Arcadia Abroad, CEA CAPA, CIEE, IES Abroad, IFSA, ISEP). 
      • Please complete your application thoroughly and accurately to avoid any delays in the process. Please review the instructional guide for searching programs and completing an application,here. 
      • Application deadlines for external providers may differ from the Morehouse application deadline. Be sure to completeboth applicationsby the appropriate dates. 
      • Exchange programs are only available for thespring semester. Spaces are limited and acceptance is highly competitive.  
    • How to Study Abroad on a Faculty-Led Trip

      Getting Started 

      1. Attend a Study Abroad Information Session 

      • Every Wednesday at 3 pm in Massey, 440 

      2. Ensure you have a valid passport 

      1. Create a financial plan to fund your program
      1. If necessary, schedule a faculty-led study abroad advising appointment with Ms. Jeanine White
      • Attend any interest meetings held by the program leader for more information about the experience 
      1. Complete applications on the Study Abroad Portal by stated deadline
      • You may apply for up to three programs per application cycle 
      1. Apply for scholarships

       
      Post Submission 
      7. Commit to program within the Study Abroad Portal 

      • If you are participating in a credit-bearing program, register for the required classes 
      1. Pay program deposit and all subsequent payments to secure your spot
        9. Obtain health clearance by deadline (you will be notified of deadline by Ms. White)
      • Fill out health forms 
      • Upload immunization records to Point and Click Patient Portal 
      • Email Ms. Brittany Talbott (btalbott@msm.edu) to notify her of each immunization record upload (this is essential!)  
      • Vaccines to Go drives may be available for you to obtain required travel vaccinations 
      1. Complete all post-decision acknowledgements 

        NOTE: All post-submission tasks must be completed by given deadline, or your spot on the trip will be forfeited   
         
        Pre-Departure 
        11. Attend your program leader’s pre-departure sessions 
        12. Complete OIE’s Pre-Study Abroad Self-Assessment 
        13. Share travel itinerary with family and friends 
        14. Print out copy of your iNext travel insurance card and download it on your phone for quick reference 
         
        15. Read the Traveler Safety Document and review the Country Handbook of your destination 
         
        While Abroad 
        16. Share your program pictures and videos! The OIE would love to promote your experience 
        17. Carefully guard your passport and other valuables at all times 
         
        Post-Program 
        18. Complete the post-program survey (will be generated within a week of your return) 
        19. Ensure all post-program assignments have been completed 
        20. Share your experiences with your brothers! 
         
        Notes:  
      • Please carefully read the program pages. Some programs may not be eligible for the Andrew Young International Scholars funds due to external funding.

      Passport Reimbursement Program

      Need a passport? Whether you are applying for the first time or renewing, you are eligible for a $165 reimbursement of your passport fees. Simply apply for your passport (more information here), then submit your reimbursement application here.

      Study Abroad Advising
      For semester programs, schedule with Ms. Nandi Musengwa. For faculty-led programs, schedule with Ms. Jeanine White.

    • How to Request Advising

      Before requesting an advising appointment, be sure to attend a Study Abroad Info Session. Sessions are held every Wednesday at 3 pm in Leadership, Room 440 and on Zoom.

      Once you have narrowed down your preferred programs, schedule an advising appointment at the Office of International Education. Appointments can be made virtually and in person. Please schedule with the advisor of your choice below:
