    ABOUT LIEUTENANT KIM 

    A DRIVEN LEADER DEDICATED TO STUDENT SUCCESS 

    LT Mark Kim is a native of Placentia, California. He is a 2016 graduate of Drexel University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering. He commissioned through the University of Pennsylvania NROTC unit in June 2016, and graduated Nuclear Power School and Nuclear Prototype Training in 2017 and 2018, respectively. 

    At sea, LT Kim was assigned to USS MAINE (SSBN 741) (Blue) stationed in Bremerton, WA where he served as the Chemistry-Radiological Controls Assistant, Damage Control Assistant, Assistant Operations Officer, and Ship Diving Officer. His onboard experience includes one Engineered Refueling Overhaul, Reactor Initial Criticality, Demonstration and Shakedown Operations, and the first strategic deterrent patrol for MAINE Blue Crew since completion of a 4 year major overhaul period. LT Kim was later assigned to Destroyer Squadron ONE (CDS-1) where he served as the N53 Submarine Operations Officer and embarked USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) as part of Carrier Strike Group ONE (CSG-1) to support COMPTUEX, one WESTPAC deployment, RIMPAC 2024, and SUSTEX.  

    Ashore, LT Kim was assigned to the Alternate Inactivation Construct (AIC) at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard to defuel and decommission USS BREMERTON (SSN 698) and USS JACKSONVILLE (SSN 699) where he served as the Main Propulsion Assistant and Recreation Funds Custodian. Following decommission of the AIC, LT Kim was assigned to Submarine Squadron 19 (CSS-19) where he served as the Submarine Quality Assurance Assistant.  

    LT Kim’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards).
