Janira Teague is an Assistant Professor of History at Morehouse College. She is a scholar of nineteenth- and twentieth-century African American history with specific interests in Harlem, migrations, politics, social movements, and racial disparities. She has published in the Journal of African American History and the Database of Black Women Suffragists.
She previously held a professorship at Norfolk State University (NSU). During her time at NSU, most notably, Professor Teague chaired the committee that developed a proposal for a BA program in African American studies. She also designed a study-abroad program that was inspired by her Fulbright-Hays experience in Durban, South Africa. Lastly, she was
selected for the inaugural cohort of Virginia HBCU Scholars through the University of Virginia and Virginia Humanities.
Professor Teague is a native of Youngstown, Ohio with a BA in psychology from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. She received an MA in African American studies with a concentration in history and a PhD in history from the University of California Los Angeles
