Meet Dr. Claude P. Hutto, Sr.

Bio

Dr. Claude P. Hutto, Sr., serves as Dean and Assistant Vice Provost for the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies (PCS) at Morehouse College and as Associate Professor of Kinesiology. As the inaugural Dean of PCS, he provides strategic leadership for academic innovation, student success, online education, workforce development, and community partnerships while advancing the College's mission of preparing Morehouse Men for lives of leadership and service.

Under Dr. Hutto's leadership, PCS has strengthened its academic infrastructure through strategic planning, expanded student support services, enhanced academic partnerships, and the continued growth of Morehouse Online. He has also championed initiatives that strengthen institutional effectiveness, including faculty credentialing and accreditation efforts, the establishment of the Professional and Continuing Studies Advisory Board, and the thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies into teaching, learning, and academic administration. He is leading the development of the College's Health and Human Performance Initiative, an interdisciplinary effort designed to prepare students for leadership in health sciences, human performance, sports medicine, and data-informed innovation.

Dr. Hutto's research focuses on student retention, faculty mentorship, higher education leadership, and organizational effectiveness. His scholarship has been presented nationally and internationally and contributes to advancing student success and institutional excellence. Since joining the Morehouse faculty in 2001, he has dedicated his career to mentoring students, expanding pathways to graduate education, and strengthening academic programs. He co-founded the James P. Haines Society Majors Club and established graduate education partnerships that have helped prepare Morehouse graduates for advanced study and professional careers.

Dr. Hutto previously served as Morehouse College's Faculty Credentialing Specialist during the institution's successful SACSCOC reaffirmation process and currently serves as the College's NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative and as a SACSCOC Evaluator.

A proud Morehouse alumnus, Dr. Hutto earned a Bachelor of Arts in Health and Physical Education while attending the College on an athletic scholarship. He was a four-year football letterman and a member of the 1991 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Football Co-Championship team. He earned a Master of Education in Physical Education from the University of Georgia and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Clark Atlanta University.
