Meet Dr. Mayers

About Dr. Mayers

Dr. Brock Mayers is a first-generation American; first-generation college student; and experienced higher education administrator.

Born in Brooklyn, NY and growing up in Long Island, NY, he is the son of Caribbean immigrant parents, and the first in his family to attend college. Brock earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Morehouse College, a Master of Science in Higher Education Leadership from Hofstra University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Drexel University.

With more than 25 years supporting programming geared towards eliminating educational access barriers for first-generation college students, Dr. Mayers remains professionally resolute in the idea that access to a high-quality education is the great equalizer of our time. Accordingly, his dissertation topic explored the impact of self-perception of academic ability on academic performance in African American male, first-generation college students.

Currently, Dr. Mayers serves as Associate Vice President of Student Services and Dean of Students at Morehouse College. Prior to joining the Division of Student Services at Morehouse College, he served as Dean of Students at Virginia Union University and Associate Director of Federal TRiO Programs at Morehouse College, where he lent his leadership to the Student Support Services Program, the Upward Bound Math-Science Program and the McNair Scholars Program.

Beyond his professional life, Brock continues to serve his community through mentoring and education access initiatives, including starting a scholarship fund with his childhood friends for black male, student athletes at their alma mater—Freeport High School in Freeport, NY. Additionally, Brock maintains active involvement with the Morehouse College National Alumni Association. He is however most proud of being known as Kendra’s husband and Kori’s daddy.
