    STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE

STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE AND OPT OUT

In our continued effort to promote good health among our students, assist students in meeting healthcare reform mandates and keep costs at a competitive level, Morehouse College reviewed several options for the 2023-2024 plan year. The plan year will begin on Aug. 1, 2023, and run through July 31, 2024.

Morehouse College requires that all undergraduate, on-campus students have adequate health insurance coverage. The College has specific requirements that must be met for all enrolled undergraduate, on-campus students. The requirements include a plan that provides appropriate coverage to access patient care providers at Morehouse College for emergency and non-emergency conditions, mental health, and prescription drug benefits. Coverage must remain in effect for the 2023-2024 academic year, with an unlimited policy year maximum and immediate pre-existing condition coverage.

On-campus students are automatically enrolled in our sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan through United Healthcare and the premium is billed to your student account each term unless you choose to opt-out, in which case you must submit proof of adequate health insurance coverage. If you already have health insurance and meet the above requirements, you may submit a waiver between July 1, 2023, through September 1, 2023. It is the student’s responsibility to verify whether or not the charge is billed to their account. Currently, Morehouse Online (online-only) students are exempt from this requirement because they are not taking classes on campus.

    UNITED HEALTHCARE INSURANCE PLAN

United Healthcare, working with Morehouse College offers a student-focused health insurance plan that covers students at school or at home. As an insured student, you get access to United Healthcare’s nationwide network of participating doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and specialists.

    OPT-OUT

If you’re already insured with coverage that fulfills the waiver, you may waive our health insurance plan. Your primary insurance plan must provide coverage in the Atlanta area. We will ask the following questions on our waiver audit.

    • Are you on an HMO plan outside the state of Georgia?
    • Are you on a Medicaid plan outside of Georgia?
    • Does your plan have an unlimited benefit maximum?
