    Morehouse College is building an AI-ready culture that elevates teaching, learning, and research across the liberal arts—grounded in responsible, human-centered AI that enhances (not replaces) academic rigor, critical thinking, and creativity.

    Overview

    Morehouse’s AI policies and guidelines prioritize integrity, transparency, and mission-aligned learning. During the 2024–2025 academic year, Academic Affairs established an Academic Policy Working Group to develop generative AI guidance for both student learning and faculty instruction, with representation across the institution (including HR and IT).

    Student Guidance

    Students are expected to use AI as a learning support—not a replacement for original thinking. Courses may define permitted and prohibited uses, and students should practice transparency by documenting tools used when required. Privacy is central: avoid uploading sensitive personal or institutional information into unapproved platforms. These expectations reflect Morehouse’s commitment to responsible, human-centered learning and academic rigor.

    Faculty Guidance

    Faculty are encouraged to make AI expectations explicit through clear syllabus language and assessments that emphasize process, critique, authentic work, and learning evidence. Morehouse’s approach centers ethical reasoning, inclusivity, and continuous improvement—using pilots, workshops, and shared governance to refine what responsible AI looks like across disciplines.

    • Generative AI Guidelines for Academic Affairs

      For Students & Faculty

      Clear expectations for ethical and responsible use of generative AI for student learning and faculty instruction—built through a representative Academic Affairs Policy Working Group.  Guidelines include core definitions, suggested syllabus language, and decision supports to help align AI use with course learning outcomes.

      The AI Academic Policy Working Group consisted of Dr. Juana Mendenhall (Chair), Dr. Harold Bennett, Dr. Kinnis Gosha, Dr. Hideko Sera, Michael Johnson, Dr. Glynnis Johnson, Dr. H. Justin Ballenger, Dr. Kimberly Jones, and Dr. Martha Madkins.
