      What We Do

      STUDENT COUNSELING AND ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES CENTER

      The Student Counseling and Accessibility Services Center in the James B. Ellison Student Health Center supports the positive mental health of Morehouse students. It facilitates accessibility services to students who meet the criteria for a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The center strives to provide the best quality of care in a confidential, safe, and supportive environment. Our team of professionals, including accessibility experts, licensed psychologists, professional counselors, and licensed social workers, are available to serve the needs of students with a diverse range of mental health and accessibility needs.

      OUR MISSION

      Accessibility Services at Morehouse College are housed within the Student Counseling and Accessibility Services Center. The services exist to ensure that all students with disabilities have equal access to educational opportunities at Morehouse College. We offer a wide range of services, accommodations, and auxiliary services for students with disabilities. These services are individually designed, and based on the specific needs of each student as identified by the Coordinator of Accessibility Services from a review of the student’s submitted documentation.

      Accessibility Services serves students with disabilities of all kinds, including mobility, visual, speech and hearing impairments; chronic illnesses such as diabetes and asthma; seizure disorders; head injuries; painful conditions such as back injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome; psychological disabilities such as bipolar disorder and severe anxiety or depression; neurological disorders: attention deficit disorder; and learning disabilities.

      Accessibility

      Accessibility Services helps students understand their learning strengths and weaknesses, explains how their disabilities may affect their performance in courses, chosen careers, or social settings, and teaches students compensatory strategies to improve their chances at success in life.

      Accessibility Services works with students in developing problem-solving strategies and solutions to difficult problems to teach self-advocacy.

Ellison, Sr. Student Health Center in Brazeal Hall, Ground Floor on the north end of campus Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.* For emergency assistance, call the Morehouse Police Department at (404) 215-2666 on-campus or 911 if off-campus. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

      *Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently offering appointments via secure video chat only. We plan to reopen for in-person sessions in the fall 2021 semester.
