WORLDHOUSE WEDNESDAYS

Each semester, the Dean of the Chapel moderates an in-depth conversation on issues ranging from politics to religion, theological formation, vocational discernment, leadership development, and church administration.

THURMAN THURSDAYS

Each Thursday, the Chapel Assistants engage in table talks on issues such as politics, religion, theological formation, vocational discernment, leadership development, and church administration.

SANDY F. RAY PREACHING LAB

As “iron sharpens iron,” the Sandy F. Ray Preaching Lab offers chapel assistants the opportunity to deliver a sermon throughout the year for constructive criticism and advice from peers and seasoned homileticians.

SEMINARY SWING

The Chapel Assistants program holds a long-standing tradition of preparing its members for theological education on the graduate level. This preparation is due in part to the annual Seminary Swing trip which offers chapel assistants the opportunity to experience student life at distinguished university based divinity schools and schools of theology as well as highly regarded independent seminaries. Each Seminary Swing trip gives students the opportunity to visit a wide variety of institutions by targeting a region of the country with a significant concentration of graduate theological institutions.

Vesper Hour

Held weekly, Vesper Hour is reflective, creative and enlightening student-centered and student-led worship experiences, open to the Atlanta University Center Consortium and wider Atlanta community. Our Vesper Hour is intentionally intimate worship experiences that minister to the total person—mind, body and spirit—through diverse expressions such as preaching, creative arts, drama, music and dialogue.

COLLEGE OF MINISTERS AND LAITY

The Chapel’s signature program attracts some of the brightest minds across disciplines to engage in dialogue, learning, and growing. The College of Ministers and Laity is unique in its juxtaposition of servanthood, scholarship, and leadership as requirements for ministry – whether that ministry is performed through formal religion or any other endeavor. This annual conference provides a creative learning environment in which clergy and laity from diverse backgrounds, distinct faith traditions, and different generations come together as students of Dr. King’s philosophies and ethical principles.

GHANDI-KING-IKEDA INSTITUTE FOR ETHICS AND RECONCILIATION

Founded by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter Sr., the Gandhi-King-Ikeda Institute for Ethics and Reconciliation currently consists of the Legacy of Building Peace exhibition and the Gandhi-King-Ikeda Community Builders prize.

COVENANT

The Yitzhak Rabin, Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Joshua Heschel, Samuel DuBois Cook, Henrietta Szold, Ruther Bader Ginsburg, Coretta Scott King, and Constance Baker Motley Initiative is a cooperative effort by the Consulate General of Israel to the Southeast, the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College, the Temple and the Atlanta chapter of the American Jewish Committee. Our aim is to celebrate the rich history of African American and Jewish collaboration and encourage a new generation in combined service through a series of events and academic programs that draw upon the legacies of Nobel Prize laureates Yitzhak Rabin, Prime Minister of Israel, and Martin Luther King, Jr., minister, and civil rights activist.
