    RSO Application and recertification

    Registration is the annual prerequisite for existing and new registered student organizations (RSO) and clubs to be recognized by the college and to receive resources. 

    About the RSO Application and Certification

    • Key Information

      Key Information

      1. First-year students are not eligible to apply for charter status. 
      2. Applications are only accepted during the spring semester. 
      3. All RSOs must have two (2) full-time faculty or staff advisors at all times. 
      4. RSO presidents are mandated to attend the Presidents Council meetings.  
      5. An advisor is required to attend the advisor training workshop. 
      6. An advisor must attend all RSO on-campus events. 
      7. Host one general body meeting each month 
      8. Host one e-board meeting each month 
      9. At a minimum, each RSO must fill executive leadership roles of president, treasurer, and secretary.  
      10. All executive leadership of RSOs must have at least a 2.7 cumulative GPA at all times. 
      11. RSO membership is restricted to the men of Morehouse. 
      12. All RSOs must have a membership of at least 10 active members 
        • Requirements for active membership must meet the following thresholds: 
          • Set up Servant Leader Profile 
          • Verified impacts in the Servant Leaders community engagement app for  
            •  three (3) general body meetings 
            • RSO-hosted community service event 
            • two additional events 
            • additional requirements set forth by RSO constitution 
      13. Organizations will be notified of charter status via the primary contact’s e-mail address. 
      14. Pay a $20 registration fee to Cashier's Office at the beginning of the fall semester. 

      Applications are due annually on March 15th and decisions are emailed on June 1st at 11:59 p.m.

      How will my application be assessed?

      All applicants will be assessed by the Presidents' Council Chairman and designated Office of Student Life staff member based on the minimum threshold criteria.  

      The criteria will include the following: 

      1. Submission of the completed application by the deadline 
      2. Uniqueness of the proposed organization’s mission and purpose  
      3. Membership and executive board members are exclusive to men of Morehouse 
      4. By-laws 
      5. Advisors’ agreement to serve 
      6. Proposed Calendar of Events (monthly general body meetings, monthly e-board meetings, and events) in Excel format 
      7. Active membership reflected in membership count on RSO page of the Servant Leaders Student Life and Leadership App (Renewing RSOs) 
      8. Event impacts on RSO page of the Servant Leaders Student Life and Leadership App (Renewing RSOs)

      Rights and Responsibilities

      Student Organizations are entitled to these rights: 
      1. Use of the College facilities (at the request of their advisor). 
      2. Opportunity to sponsor on-campus events and activities. 
      3. Advisement or co-advisement by the Department of Student Life and Leadership to selected organizations. 
      4. Access to LEAD leadership training. 
      5. Access to the Office of Student Life Equipment Closet Resources. 
      6. Servant Leaders community engagement account 

      Responsibilities to Maintain Active Status 
      1. Maintain current records of all chartering documents including a constitution, bylaws, membership list, event calendar, and operating manual in the Servant Leaders student life and leadership app 
      2. Ensure that activities and programming are listed in the event section of the RSO's group page in the Servant Leaders student life and leadership app, consistent with the organization charter and adhere to college policies, and procedures 
      3. Host one academic, community service, and a social event each fall, and spring semesters. Collaborations are encouraged. 
      4. Host monthly general body meetings 
      5. Host monthly executive board meetings 
      6. Ensure representation at RSO fairs each fall and spring semesters 
      7. Uphold standards of eligibility for participation in student activities as indicated in the Student Handbook 
      8. Complete the annual registration application by March 15th of each year 
      9. All members completing the anti-hazing form found here
      10. Submit the annual performance report.

      RSO Funding

      Each man of Morehouse invests in their student life experience via student fees. Student fees are allocated to the SGA Senate to sponsor vibrant experiences and initiatives that benefits the student body at large.  

      Each year the SGA Senate commits to the following budget allocations: 40% Register Student Organizations, 40% Approved Legislation and 20% for SGA Senate Administrative Costs. Approved RSOs may request sponsorship via the Senate Appropriation Chairman by the published deadline.
