Meet Karen L. Miller

Profile

Karen L. Miller is senior vice president and chief administrative officer at Morehouse College. In this role, she oversees administrative services including facilities, technology, human resources, Title IX, enterprise risk management, legal affairs, and strategic management. She is also the primary liaison and administrative support lead for the board of trustees. Miller has served in numerous leadership roles at Morehouse, including special advisor to the president, chief operating officer, chief of staff, and general counsel. During her tenure, she established the College’s first government relations office, implemented the first comprehensive compliance program, and facilitated a major business process redesign to improve key new student enrollment processes. 

Miller has also served as vice president of human resources and chief risk officer at Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT. At Middlebury, she led human resources operations, compliance, and institutional risk management and directed initiatives related to strategy, workforce planning, and transformation. Earlier in her career, she was academic dean and an associate professor at John Marshall Law School in Atlanta, GA and an adjunct faculty member at Dekalb Community College.

Her legal experience is extensive, including leadership as a special assistant attorney general for the State of Georgia handling real estate matters. As a principal at Johnson and Miller, she specialized in corporate law, education, real estate, and lending transactions. She has also held positions as an associate in major law firms in Georgia and Pennsylvania, including The Johnson Firm; Sutherland, Asbill, and Brennan; Blank, Rome, Comisky, and McCauley; and Kilpatrick and Cody. She co-founded AEI Consulting, a practice focused on designing and delivering capacity-building interventions for non-profits and higher education institutions, specifically in the areas of leadership development, service delivery, team building, and enrollment management services.

Miller earned a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University, where she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity and a juris doctorate from Harvard University School of Law. She was also a Manley Scholar at Spelman College.
