    About Dr. Glynnis Johnson

Dr. Glynnis M. Johnson joined Morehouse College in 2018 as an assistant professor of marketing. She earned a Ph.D. and M.A. in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.A. in Business Administration from Dillard University.

Her areas of expertise are advertising and marketing. At Morehouse, she teaches Principles of Advertising, Social Media Marketing, Principles of Marketing, Marketing Management, and Strategic Brand Management. In addition to teaching, she serves as the faculty advisor for the Morehouse College Chapter of American Advertising Association and the Faculty Committee for Student Development.

Prior to entering academia, Dr. Johnson worked in the advertising industry. She was an art director at BBDO New York, an Omnicom agency. She developed advertisements for major national brands such as Mars, Pizza Hut, and Visa. Dr. Johnson has been a consultant to various ethnic market advertising agencies. While working as an art director, Johnson discovered that the advertising industry had one of the worse histories of hiring people of color. In response, in 1999, she established African Americans in Advertising (AAIA), an organization that created a forum where issues and concerns unique to African American advertising professionals could be addressed. She also works with other organizations that promote diversity. She currently serves as a board member and education and scholarship committee member with the Atlanta Advertising Club (AAC).

Her passion for advertising and commitment to diversity influence her research. Her current research focuses on advertising education at HBCUs, unconscious bias in the hiring practices of advertising agencies, and Black entrepreneurship in advertising.
