About Dr. Tina Chang
Dr. Adrian N. Neely is the Associate Director of Research for the STEM Undergraduate Success Research Center at Morehouse College.
With over 20 years of experience in school districts, government, and academia, she brings a wealth of expertise to the role. Dr. Neely earned a B.S. in Biology and an M.Ed. in Science Education from the University of Georgia, followed by a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning from Georgia State University. She began her career as a high school science instructor in the Atlanta metropolitan area before serving as an Aerospace Education Specialist for NASA, supporting urban and rural communities across the United States. She later transitioned into state government, leading policy implementation efforts at the Georgia Department of Education and the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement. Dr. Neely’s interdisciplinary research examines the intersection of school connectedness, STEM, teacher education, and health policy. Her current focus is on developing a culturally responsive assessment scale to measure school connectedness, centering on the experiences of Black youth in STEM. Her work has significant implications for supporting educators in fostering meaningful connections across school environments—an essential step in shaping long-term success for Black students in STEM fields. As a member of a research collective within the STEM Undergraduate Success Research Center, Dr. Neely conducts mixed-methods research to explore and document the legacy of excellence in STEM education at HBCUs.
