Shiloh Upward Bound Program
The Morehouse College Shiloh Upward Bound Program serves 60 eligible students enrolled at Shiloh High School, located in Snellville, GA. The program aims to help high school students prepare for and succeed in higher education, at no cost. The program provides participants with academic support, college readiness workshops, mentorship, and enrichment activities during the academic year and summer. Some of the benefits of the Shiloh Upward Bound program include:
- Tutor: Increased academic performance and college readiness
- College Tours: Exposure to college life and the college application process
- Mentorship/Counseling: Development of leadership and critical thinking skills
- Resources: Access to resources and support for post-secondary education

The Shiloh Upward Bound program offers a range of benefits designed to support students’ academic success, personal growth, and college readiness. Through our programming, students gain valuable skills and opportunities, including:
Academic Support
- Weekly tutoring sessions in core subjects like math, science, and language arts to help students strengthen their academic foundation.
- Access to specialized workshops on study strategies, time management, and test preparation (SAT/ACT).
Cultural and Social Enrichment
- Exposure to cultural events, museums, and community engagement activities to broaden students' worldviews and foster social awareness.
- Social-emotional learning (SEL) workshops to help students develop emotional intelligence, resilience, and leadership skills.
College and Career Readiness
- College application assistance, including essay writing support, scholarship searches, and FAFSA guidance.
- College tours and mentoring sessions with current students and alumni to inspire and guide participants through the college journey.
- Collaboration with financial experts to teach students budgeting, financial planning, and understanding financial aid, with workshops like "Pell Yeah" focusing on navigating Pell Grants and scholarships.
Individual Mentorship and Counseling
- One-on-one meetings to help students create personalized academic and career plans, as well as regular check-ins to discuss progress and challenges.
- Support for first-generation college students, providing guidance tailored to their unique needs.
Summer and After-School Programs
- Intensive summer programs where students engage in academic courses, college prep, and cultural immersion experiences.
- Afterschool recruitment and academic reinforcement activities for continued support.

Students
Students and staff of the Upward Bound Program believe that motivation is the prerequisite for learning. In the Upward Bound program, both students and staff have expectations to ensure the quality and integrity of the program is maintained. As a student in the program, it is expected that you will actively participate in program activities, complete assignments on time, attend all meetings and workshops, and maintain a positive attitude towards learning. You are also expected to demonstrate good behavior and respect for your peers, mentors, and educators.
Staff
On the other hand, as staff members in the program, it is expected that you will provide academic support, mentorship, and guidance to students, create a safe and inclusive learning environment, maintain communication with students and their families, and uphold professional standards of conduct. Both students and staff are expected to work collaboratively towards achieving the goals of the Upward Bound program, which is to help students succeed in higher education and achieve their full potential.
Parent/Guardians
Lastly, but most important, Shiloh Upward Bound program recognizes that parents and families play a crucial role in the academic success of their scholars. Therefore, the program provides resources and support for parents and families to help them understand the college application process, financial aid options, and academic requirements. It is expected that parents will actively participate in program events, communicate regularly with staff, and provide encouragement and support for their scholars to achieve their academic goals
