    STEEM Initiative

Our Mission: To facilitate community prosperity and reduce poverty in metro Atlanta through innovative programming and training in entrepreneurship, social justice, social innovation, and sustainability.

    About the STEEM Initiative

Steem Picture3The Social Transformation through Entrepreneurship for Economic Mobility (STEEM) Program is a community-centered initiative designed to facilitate prosperity and reduce poverty in metro Atlanta through innovative entrepreneurship training and social innovation programming. As a member institution of the Urban Poverty and Business Initiative (UPBI) headquartered at the University of Notre Dame, Morehouse College leverages STEEM to help individuals living at or below the U.S. poverty level discover and realize their entrepreneurial potential.

The program specifically targets low-income individuals in Black communities across metro Atlanta who receive services from Community Action Agencies, as well as Morehouse’s Black male student population, due to their underrepresentation in entrepreneurship. This focus reflects the mission of Morehouse College and the Division of Business and Economics to address systemic inequities, expand economic opportunity, and cultivate entrepreneurial leadership in historically underserved populations.

Through intensive training, mentorship, and access to resources, STEEM equips participants to overcome systemic barriers, launch sustainable businesses, and achieve upward economic mobility.
