About MCEE

Our Journey

The Morehouse Center for Excellence in Education (MCEE) was established in 2019 to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive community dedicated to advancing educational innovation. Originally envisioned as a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration, MCEE has rapidly become a driving force for transformative education at Morehouse College and beyond.

From its inception, the Center has prioritized bridging the gap between theory and practice by offering initiatives that integrate research, policy, and community engagement. Serving as a cornerstone for students, faculty, staff, and alumni, MCEE provides a dynamic platform to address critical educational challenges and uncover new opportunities.

Through its diverse programs and strategic partnerships, MCEE has solidified its role as an indispensable resource, fostering intellectual curiosity and promoting civic engagement. By inspiring the next generation of leaders, the Center continues to shape the future of education and drive meaningful change in society.

Our partners include:

• Gilead: Through the Gilead Foundation Creating Possible Fund, Gilead empowers MCEE to advance health prosperity through education equity by addressing systemic challenges in education. This partnership focuses on developing innovative recruitment and community engagement strategies to identify and nurture Black male students as early as middle and high school, inspiring them to consider careers in education. It also works to remove common barriers that hinder Black males from entering and thriving in the teaching profession, ensuring they have the support needed to succeed. Additionally, Gilead’s funding enables the creation of communities of practice and wellness for Black male teachers and learners, fostering a strong sense of belonging, agency, and self-efficacy. Together, MCEE and Gilead are dismantling barriers to learning and building a more equitable future in education.
  
  
• New Leaders: Through a transformative collaboration, New Leaders and the Morehouse Center for Excellence in Education (MCEE) are reshaping the future of school leadership. This partnership drives equity-centered leadership development through the National Aspiring Principals Fellowship—an online program designed to prepare the next generation of school leaders.  The Fellowship integrates New Leaders’ Transformational Leadership Framework™, an evidence-based model for school transformation, with the rich scholarship and equity-focused frameworks of Morehouse College. Together, the partnership:

1. Prepares aspiring principals to lead with a moral imperative and a focus on dismantling inequitable practices.
2. Cultivates leadership rooted in equity, ensuring historically marginalized students benefit from inclusive and empowering school environments.
3. Provides leadership seminars, capstone projects, and personalized coaching to equip participants with the tools to drive systemic change in education.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing educational excellence, equity, and innovation by supporting diverse cohorts of leaders ready to address the challenges of today’s schools.

• Hume Foundation: In collaboration with the Hume Foundation, the Morehouse Center for Excellence in Education (MCEE) is spearheading an innovative initiative to enhance professional learning opportunities for educators. Through this partnership, MCEE aims to establish a state-of-the-art Classroom of the Future, designed specifically for Morehouse College education majors and Pre-K through 12th-grade teachers. This dedicated space will foster dynamic learning experiences, encouraging collaboration between aspiring and seasoned educators. By addressing the evolving demands of 21st-century education, the initiative ensures that teachers are equipped with cutting-edge tools and strategies to enrich instructional practices. The ultimate goal is to empower educators to excel in their roles and prepare students for success in a rapidly changing educational landscape. Together, MCEE and the Hume Foundation are paving the way for transformative growth in teaching and learning, creating opportunities for educators to thrive and inspire future generations.
