Academic Advising
ACADEMIC ADVISING
Academic advising is a form of robust one-on-one teaching and mentoring. Academic advisors are encouraged to get to know each advisee and to be available to support them in various ways.
Maroon Tiger Advisors for New and Transfer Students
The Maroon Tiger Advising team is responsible for the advisement of all new students.
New First Time Freshman and Transfer students need to take Placement Assessments to determine which classes are right for you, you’ll take a math and foreign language assessment. All students regardless of transfer credit will need to take the math assessment. If a student has transfer credit(s) for foreign language, you may not need to take the assessment.
Incoming new students and transfers can get weekly advisement between May 10 and June 30, 2024, you’ll also have access to regular advisement sessions. These sessions cover a variety of topics and will connect you with your appropriate Divisional Advisor.
Academic Advisement for Current Students
We are committed to providing a comprehensive academic support system in an environment that supports a culturally and educationally diverse student body and is conducive to the development and success of your academic preparation, transition, and progress toward graduation and becoming a Morehouse Man.
For current students, a Faculty Advisor will be assigned to each student who has earned 26 or more hours and declared a major or minor through the appropriate department(s).
Morehouse College students are encouraged to see their academic advisor at least twice each semester. While students are encouraged to seek multiple perspectives on how best to pursue their goals, they must accept responsibility for their own academic success and beware of relying solely on information from peers.
