    PROFILE

A 1975 graduate of Yale College, Jeff worked for 14 years in nonprofit management before entering the Ph.D. program in Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame in 1989. While engaged in doctoral studies, he also founded InterLearn, Inc., an investor-backed venture that used new media technologies to produce both career education and liberal arts programs for adult learners.

Jeff returned to Yale in 1997 to become the Executive Director of the Association of Yale Alumni, responsible for university relations, event management, education programming and online services for Yale’s 120,000 alumni. He went on to serve as Yale’s undergraduate Dean of Admissions from 2005 to 2013. In 2010, he accepted a concurrent appointment as Master of Timothy Dwight College, one of Yale’s twelve undergraduate residential communities. He retired from university administration in 2017. He continues to teach, consult with education technology companies, and to write about college admissions and college success.

Jeff has held teaching appointments at Yale since 2001 as a Lecturer in Philosophy, Humanities or Religious Studies, and has taught in Directed Studies, Yale’s intensive humanities program. His research interests include ancient philosophy, the history of moral philosophy, and the history of philosophical thinking about human nature.
