Founder's Day

Our Founder

The Rev. William Jefferson White founded the Augusta Institute—today's Morehouse College—on February 14, 1867.

Founder's Week

Each year, we celebrate our founding by producing a series of events known as Founder's Week. These events are designed to pay homage to  while keeping an eye firmly on the future. In 1989, Founder's Week was changed forever with the creation of the "" gala, an event designed to highlight the achievements and accomplishments of Black men. The black-tie affair highlights our mission of producing leaders, pays tribute to nationally acclaimed Black leaders who are considered giants in their respective fields, and showcases the talents and oratorical skills of Morehouse students. It also serves as one of our major annual fundraising activities, with the goal of attracting approximately 1,000 guests, and generating revenue for our endowed scholarship fund.
