A member of the Morehouse College faculty since 2006, Dr. Brian M. Lawrence draws on his experience as a chemist in both academic and industrial research settings to teach courses and promote research in chemistry to both introductory and advanced undergraduates.
Dr. Lawrence received his B.S. Chemistry, with Honors, from the University of California at Berkeley and his A.M./Ph.D. Chemistry from Harvard University. Prior to joining the faculty at Morehouse, he was employed as a Senior Research Scientist at ARIAD Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he spearheaded novel synthetic and purification methods for exploratory therapies targeting drugs to the bone matrix. His pedagogical interests lie in areas that aim to understand what interventions help retain students in STEM pathways that ultimately lead to success in both STEM and STEM careers. Recently, his research has focused on the development of new methods for the modular synthesis of small molecule compounds, including natural products.
