UPS Community Scholars Program

In 1996, Dr. Anne Wimbush Watts established the UPS Community Scholars Program funded by The UPS Foundation to provide ten scholars at Atlanta University Center institutions the opportunity to provide tutorial instruction and mentorship to students at Fickett Elementary School in the Atlanta Public Schools system. Scholars are assigned to a classroom of third, fourth, or fifth-grade students and assist the instructor by providing individual tutoring to students in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies to increase their understanding of concepts in preparation for the Georgia Milestones and beyond.

Scholarship Amount: $5,000

Eligibility Requirements

  • Passion for improving educational experience
  • Demonstrate a financial need
  • Possess prior volunteer experience working with youth and education 

Scholarship Requirements

  • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Earn 15 credit hours each semester
  • 300 service hours each academic year
  • Attend All-Scholar, leadership development, and UPS Community Scholar meetings
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of the Morehouse Fickett Day

This is a four-year scholarship that requires a recommitment to the program every year after successful completion of the program requirements.
