Summary

This position assists with recruiting, selection, and orientation of potential program participants. The Program Coordinator assists in the development and implementation of program objectives and works with students to improve their academic preparation for graduate school.

Maintains accurate, up-to-date records and documentation of assessment and placement, including maintaining a database, academic records, contacts, and evaluations. The Program Coordinator plans, coordinates, and implements services for first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students. Performs other duties and support services as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides overall direction and guidance to the day-to-day operations, problem-solving, and decision-making
  • Implements program policies and directives according to district, federal, or state guidelines
  • Performs administrative support functions in coordinating a student services program
  • Assists in the development, preparation, and/or administration of department and program budgets
  • Maintains and compiles data for statistical reports, student data reports, student records and files, or material requested by the district and state
  • Reviews applications and other program documents to determine acceptance or make decisions about the program; advises students regarding information as needed; identifies problems and provides advice
  • Promote access to and increase awareness of available student support services and programs
  • Prepares periodic reports, financial statements, and records on program activities, progress, status, or other special reports
  • Assist the Program Manager with administering all project services according to Federal Regulations
  • Assist with the compilation of statistical reports, student data reports, student records and files, or material requested (e.g., Annual Performance Report, Blumen, Box, Master Roster, and other data tools). Provide objective and data-based reports monthly
  • Coordinates Program activities and processes for working with students. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of graduate school admissions procedures and resources, as well as national research presentation opportunities. (GRE prep and testing, Graduate school applications, Graduate School tours and workshops, STEM conferences)
  • Coordinates with other departments and/or external vendors to arrange for support equipment, materials, services, or resources for students and orients students
  • Works with Program Manager to review applications or other program documents to determine acceptance or make decisions about the program
  • Assist with the development, design, management and preparation of McNair presentations, written information, and other tools related to student services
  • Assist with McNair special programs to promote access to and increased awareness of available student support services and programs
  • Track and follow participants, attainment, retention, and successes
  • Implements program policies and directives according to district, federal, or state guidelines
  • Maintain confidential advising notes for individual students, as well as track GPA, and progress towards the completion of General Education Requirements and College Major Requirements
  • Assists in the preparation and/or administration of department and program budgets
  • Progress, status, or other special reports for management or outside agencies
  • Performs other administrative duties as prescribed by the Program Manager
  • Knowledge and understanding of the program, its mission, and objectives
  • Strong writing and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent problem-solving, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills
  • Provide counseling to program participants to assess needs and monitor the growth of their academic and personal objectives and maintain program goals
  • Coordinate and execute programming activities and workshops during the academic year and summer session to ensure compliance with program objectives
  • Assist with the development of a calendar of McNair events that incorporate campus community to contribute to program participants' growth and development
  • Maintain scholar records as well as streamline record-keeping processes as related to program objectives
Specific Duties
  • Assist with the monthly McNair workshops/meetings and collaborate with necessary campus and community partners to provide scholars with relevant information about research internships, graduate school assistance, and careers
  • Maintain an active commitment to continued personal and professional development and advocate for first-generation and low-income students
  • Social Media awareness and navigation to create an innovative presence online
  • Technologically Savvy in Microsoft Office suites
Required Knoweldge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Practical knowledge of students who are first-generation students, and low-income students
  • Communicates effectively across a range of stakeholders
  • Excellent written, oral, and/or visual communication skills
  • Flexibility to work during peak program/summer hours, some nights and weekends may be required
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum three years of full-time experience in a similar field/program
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
