The Office of Data Analytics, Institutional Research, and Effectiveness seeks a Data Manager to play an integral role in facilitating college-wide, data-informed decision making. The Data Manager will be primarily responsible for capturing data from institutional data systems, providing that data to the DIRE office, and creating data reports and visualizations using Tableau, Argos, Excel, or other appropriate tools. The successful candidate will be highly skilled in various data extraction, data reporting, and data visualization approaches. They will also be expected to extend these approaches to the overall development of institutional effectiveness and efficiency in gathering, analyzing, and presenting institutional data in an inviting way to a broad audience.

Essential Duties and Responsbilities
  • Support DIRE reporting efforts by querying and manipulating institutional data through programmatic approaches
  • Design and implement interactive approaches to share and display data
  • Design and develop processes to capture required data for routine reporting to both the Morehouse community and external entities
  • Design and develop ad hoc processes to provide timely responses to requests for data from various units
  • Manage storage, maintenance, and updates of DIRE datasets in sustainable and efficient ways
  • Document data processes and systems
  • Actively work on automating reporting and related processes for all routine reporting to improve efficiency
  • Identify systems and tools that will help improve data collection, analyses, and research efforts
  • Keep abreast of changes in the IT/higher education environment and ensure currency of skills through continuous (informal) education, participation in conferences, workshops, and other professional development
  • Serve as liaison between DIRE and the Morehouse Information Technology Group (ITS)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Systematic and thoughtful approach to programming (e.g., version control, modular and reusable code, proper documentation, etc.)
  • Ability to think outside-the-box to suggest tools and approaches that effectively address problems, are feasible to implement, and cost-effective
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools and libraries (Tableau, Power BI, JavaScript[D3, Dataset], etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze and present complex information
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or similar technical discipline
  • Experience with programmatic approaches to manipulating large datasets (SQL, R, Python, SAS, MS-Access with strong VBA, etc.)
  • Three to five years of experience in applications development or an equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Experience managing databases with a strong emphasis on data integrity, data quality, and designing efficient processes and mechanisms to store and retrieve data
  • Experience in a higher-education setting developing reports that utilize student data preferred
  • Experience with enterprise reporting platforms (e.g., Argos, Cognos, etc.) preferred
