Morehouse seeks a highly motivated, creative, dynamic, and collaborative individual to fill the Business Analyst (Finance) position reporting directly to the Director of Enterprise Application Services. The Business Analyst's role is to plan, design, develop, and launch efficient business, financial, and operations systems to support core organizational functions and business processes. This includes gathering and analyzing data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and systems requirements. The Business Analyst is also responsible for supporting and managing systems and generating and compiling reports based on the findings, complete with probable causes and possible solutions to systems issues. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to maximize the benefit of IT system investments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • In-depth understanding of ERP systems and modules, report writing development, and functional expertise with Banner and other primary enterprise applications used in higher education
  • Provide troubleshooting and support for all applications associated with the Ellucian ERP System.
  • Support a variety of third-party applications.
  • Support for the automation of the business processes.
  • Use the necessary programming support to provide efficient and effective use of application systems.
  • Consult with supervisors, systems analysts, programmers, and end-users to:
    • develop functional design specifications and gather information about program intent, functions, and features
    • understand data requirements, input and output requirements
    • set internal and external checks and controls
    • maintain and develop hardware and operating system environment, interfaces with other systems, training, and support
  • Prepare functional design specifications for conversion, reporting, interfaces, and customizations.
  • Guide the formulation and coordination of an end-user training strategy, and when appropriate, developing and delivering such training.
  • Direct development of testing methodology, and test scripts for utilization during upgrades and patch application; confirming program meets specifications
  • Report and extract data from the ERP system, write SQL queries, modify existing reports and queries
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills; self-starter with a can-do attitude
  • Work with end-users to understand business processes and then working to help end-users become more efficient and effective utilizing the Ellucian ERP system
  • Potentially convert designs and specifications into computer code and manage project efforts
  • Potentially compile code into programs and corrects errors detected in the compilation process
  • Analyze code to find causes of errors
  • Document and maintain modifications to computer code, programs, and specifications.
  • Provide functional/technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions with programs
  • Train end-users or technical support staff to use and support modules
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems and five years of experience in the information technology field are required. The ideal candidate must be extremely familiar with the Banner data model, its naming conventions, and experience extracting and transforming this information for various purposes. Direct experience with the finance data structures is required, and experience with other modules is a plus. Knowledge of Oracle database and PL/SQL programming is also a plus. Experience with Ellucian Banner software is strongly preferred. The ability to work in a rapidly changing technological and team-oriented environment is essential. Excellent customer service and communication skills are a must.

  • Three years of strong Banner/Oracle technical knowledge
  • ARGOS Reporting or similar knowledge preferred but not required
  • Strong SQL queries coding skills against a range of relational databases
  • Proficiency in various programming/scripting languages, such as, but not limited to, PL/SQL, Java, JavaScript, Shell Script, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of accounting and budgeting
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Excellent understanding of coding methods and best practices
  • Flexible and adaptable with learning and understanding new technologies
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
