The Associate Director of Alumni Engagement works in partnership with the Offices of Annual Giving, the National Alumni Association, Admissions and Recruitment, and other key internal stakeholders. Together they'll create joint programming opportunities to engage alumni and increase their investment of time, talent, and tender with the College.

The Associate Director of Alumni Engagement serves as the primary point of contact/resource to internal and external key stakeholders related to alumni engagement. This position assists in delivering and executing programs and events, including Alumni networking receptions, First-Year and Reunion programs, Pre-Alumni student programming, and other alumni events as managed by the Office of External Relations and Alumni Engagement. The Associate Director of Alumni Engagement will disseminate, track, and maintain all communication and post-event survey data, prepare reports and materials, draft correspondence for internal partners, and across the network.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage alumni volunteer engagement and activities with the goal of expanding and enhancing volunteerism throughout various locales throughout the country
  • Support and deliver on- and off-site events, overseeing logistical and practical arrangements and ensuring consistently high standards
  • Plan and execute outreach programs to educate current undergraduate students about the importance of philanthropy and engagement
  • Work closely with the Director of Annual Giving to manage the Senior Class Gift campaign and manage an annual program to drive Alumni participation from the First Year Out class, building on the success of their Senior Gift
  • Create solid and sustained channels of communication with Gen X and Millennial alumni to highlight and make others aware of their accomplishments and achievements by using several social media platforms, including but not limited to, our CRM, direct mail, email marketing, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Collaborate with the advancement team and student development teams to provide infrastructure, support, and guidance to further the cause of alumni-student engagement and alumni participation efforts

The associate director’s key goal is to cultivate a more engaged young alumni community through creative networking events and volunteer management, building a stronger alumni community, and engendering a culture of philanthropy while providing excellent support through a mutually beneficial relationship.

  • Ability to assist in improving the program enhancement and communication through advertisement and social media
  • Ability to develop and bring to completion multiple assignments concurrently
  • Ability to analyze data and other information utilizing and maintaining spreadsheets and databases
Education and Experience Requirements
  • B.A or B.S degree 
  • Three to five years or experience of alumni relations experience (preferred)
  • Demonstrated appreciations and knowledge of the history and missions of Morehouse College
  • Financial supporter of candidate’s alma mater
  • Knowledge of marketing and alumni relations best practices, including digital marketing, email, and social media
  • Skilled in the use of statistical tools and surveys
  • Must be proficient in the use of new and emerging technology for digital platforms
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact diplomatically with diverse personalities and to exercise judgment and tact in interaction with alumni leaders, donors, parents, and various internal/external constituencies
  • Must be creative, proactive, yet disciplined and able to streamline work volume to maintain bottom line efforts during multi-tasking
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; graphical design tools
  • Able to manage and participate in the plan annual budget planning process for alumni engagement
  • Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with annual giving colleagues (OIA), faculty, staff, students, and volunteers to achieve desired goals
  • Experience managing events is required. Strong organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow through and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to physically travel when appropriate to engage alumni in the life of the College
