Assistant Professor in Physics (Tenure Track)

Assistant Professor of Physics (Tenure Track)

Division/Department: Academic Affairs, Division of Mathematics and Computational Sciences
Open Date: Feb. 15, 2021

The Division of Mathematics and Computational Sciences welcomes applications and nominations for an available tenure-track assistant professor in physics. According to recent AIP reports, Morehouse's Physics Program ranks as the number one producer of underrepresented minority males who earn B.S. degrees in physics. Our Dual-Degree Engineering program is equally productive and is among the top producers of minorities who pursue B.S. degrees in engineering. The Physics and Dual-Degree Engineering Program seeks outstanding applicants who can add to our existing teaching strengths and boost our research in various disciplines.

For this assistant professor position, we seek individuals committed to the College and division's missions to increase and broaden students' intellectual competency and help develop future leaders who are innovators and problem solvers capable of effectively addressing global problems that affect modern society. We prefer applicants who demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and possess prior research experience. Successful candidates will teach a 4-4 course load consisting of various courses within our core undergraduate physics curriculum. Assigned courses may include mechanics, electricity and magnetism, optics and modern physics, mathematical physics, thermodynamics, electromagnetic theory, classical mechanics, and quantum mechanics.

In addition, candidates must actively engage in research, demonstrate the ability to establish a rigorous research program, secure program funding, and regularly provide students with academic advisement. Specific areas of research focus are open. Opportunities for research and collaboration exist. The qualified applicant's research should complement and strengthen existing research areas, which include: (1) atomic, molecular, and optical physics; (2) materials science physics; and (3) nuclear physics. Candidates who can provide evidence of interdisciplinary research and teaching experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
