Dr. Timothy E. Sams
Dr. Timothy E. Sams is Morehouse College’s Vice President for Student Development, where he oversees Enrollment Management, Student Services and the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel. He is the former Vice President for Student Life at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), in Troy, NY, where he was responsible for leadership of the student experience. Prior to RPI he was the Associate Dean of Students at NYU in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Before that he spent 13 years at Swarthmore College as an Assistant Dean of the College and Director of the Black Cultural Center, and four years at Williams College as the Director of the Multicultural Center. Prior to Williams College, he coordinated Minority Student Services at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY.
Dr. Sams' work in higher education reflects his commitment to student access, success, leadership and social transformation. Originally from Syracuse, New York, he received a B.A from Union College, Schenectady, NY, an M.A. from The State University of New York at Albany, and a Ph.D. from Temple University. He is the father of two and the husband to Mrs. Frenita Combs-Sams.
