Resources for Parents
April 13, 2017
Dear Morehouse College Parents:
As you probably have heard by now, the executive level of Morehouse College and the executive level of the College's Board of Trustees made meaningful changes over the weekend to restore our stakeholders' confidence in the College. Because you are a critically important part of our community, I want to make sure that you hear from me personally about those changes and what they mean for your sons.
After nearly two years as Chief Operating Officer at Morehouse College, I was appointed as interim president on April 7, 2017. I am honored to serve in that capacity. On that same day, Willie E. Woods '85 was elected as the new board chairman. As chairman, Woods leads a slate of four new officers: John Thornton, vice chairman; Richard Thaler, treasurer; Harold Martin '02, secretary; and Dorothy Yancy, assistant secretary. This new leadership team is committed to working together for the betterment of our institution and, most importantly, the students it serves.
At Morehouse College we embrace change. It is at the root of our mission as we work to develop men with disciplined minds to lead lives of leadership and service. It is that engine that drives us to upgrade our teaching methodologies, expand our academic programs, and use the technology and innovation necessary to make our scholars competitive in a global marketplace for STEM careers and graduate school entry. We are committed to these priorities now more than ever.
As we close out our Sesquicentennial year, we will continue to push for the change necessary to ensure that Morehouse College has the permanent leadership and philanthropic support to thrive for another 150 years.
Our success depends on the quality of education that we provide and the quality of graduates that we produce. Our students are the lifeline of this school, and their growth and development are key to Morehouse's legacy as a world-class institution. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions as we move forward together through the transition process, please contact me at email@example.com. I look forward to serving you and your family as interim President and hope to see you on campus soon.
