Morehouse College Receives Major Gift from the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation to Fund Student Scholarships

The Stamps Family Charitable Foundation, Inc., created in 1998, has added Morehouse College to the impressive list of colleges and universities benefiting from the program.

The Stamps Leadership Scholars Program at Morehouse College will benefit exemplary students with at least a 3.7 grade-point-average. The first group of six students will be awarded during the 2013-2014 academic school year. Two students from each academic division will be selected annually to receive full-ride scholarships valued at approximately $200,000 each.  The program will grow by six new scholarships annually.  Students in the program also will have access to an enrichment fund of $10,000 to support study abroad trips, undergraduate research trips, unpaid internships and academic or co-curricular conferences.

The Stamps Leadership Scholars Program was created to recognize and support the academic pursuits of students who exemplify leadership, perseverance, scholarship, service and innovation.

“The support from the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation is invaluable to our students,” said Kevin Williams, dean of Admissions at Morehouse.  “The Foundation takes a special interest in many of the areas that we emphasize in student development.  This is a unique opportunity for our students to develop both in and outside of the classroom. This long-term partnership will benefit our students for years to come.”

“I spent much time in Atlanta as an undergraduate and graduate student at Georgia Tech and am very familiar with Morehouse and its reputation for producing students who mirror the values associated with our scholarship,” said E. Roe Stamps IV. “Morehouse’s commitment to global leadership and service learning is admirable and my wife, Penny, and I are happy to support students who are striving to be leaders in those areas through the Stamps Leadership Scholars Program at Morehouse College.”

Currently, the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation partners with 33 schools to provide merit scholarships to deserving students.  Some of the schools with which they partner are Georgia Tech, the University of Michigan, the College of William and Mary, the University of Chicago and the University of Virginia.  Through these partnerships, the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation supports nearly 300 students with an additional 175 students to be added each of the next three years.  Morehouse is the first Historically Black College with whom the foundation has partnered.
