About General Counsel

Joy White brings over 13 years of legal and business experience to her position as Vice President of Legal Affairs and Human Resources, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, and College Secretary, where she supervises the legal affairs of the college and ensures the development and reinforcement of a comprehensive compliance program the College, including primary responsibility for overseeing Title IX, internal investigations, institutional research, athletic compliance and all compliance matters affecting Morehouse College. 

Ms. White reports directly to President David A. Thomas, sits on the Executive Leadership Team, Administrative Cabinet and chairs several institutional committees relating to compliance, institutional risk, employee benefits, and SACSCOC reaccreditation.  Ms. White also serves as the institutional secretary to the Morehouse College Board of Trustees. 

Prior to joining Morehouse, Ms. White was a highly-skilled civil attorney and businesswoman with a proven track record of providing meaningful and strategic legal advice to companies and organizations of all sizes ranging from start-ups to Fortune 100 corporations in a variety of industries, including, hospitality, educational institutions, transportation, healthcare, real estate, and financial institutions. 

 As a proud Spelman College alumna (c/o 02’), Ms. White received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, summa cum laude, before continuing on to earn her Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University Law School in Nashville, Tennessee.

General Counsels OfficeRahn L. Gatewood serves Morehouse College as the Associate General Counsel and Deputy Compliance Officer in the Office of General Counsel and Compliance.  He oversees the College’s contract review and approval process, supervises pending litigation, identifies risks and legal liability for the College, and provides legal support on ethics, compliance, and policy matters.  He also provides legal oversight for student-based academic and summer programs.  

For over a decade, before joining Morehouse, Rahn worked in private practice and supervised a business and commercial litigation practice in Atlanta, Georgia.  He primarily represented Fortune 500 companies and financial services industry participants, including national financial institutions, insurance companies, and mortgage servicers.  He also worked as general counsel for two highly successful Atlanta-based companies where he advised his clients on a variety of contractual and employment-related issues, licensing compliance, premises liability, operating agreements, and commercial leases.  

Rahn is a proud graduate of an HBCU, Dillard University (New Orleans, Louisiana), with a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and Public Policy, summa cum laude.  From there, he attended Emory University School of Law (Atlanta) as a University Fellow and earned his degree of Juris Doctor.  Rahn remains committed to mentorship, civic engagement, and community service throughout the Atlanta area in various professional, leadership, and service capacities. 

Ethics and ComplianceA native of St. Louis, MO. Katari A Key joined Morehouse College in March 2016 and serves as Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.

Previously Key spent 2 years at Seton Hill University (SHU) where she was Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator. She also was the advisor for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). During her time at SHU she led SAAC to raising over $10,000 for Make-A-Wish.  

No stranger to Atlanta, GA and the AUC. She spent 6 years at Clark Atlanta University where she served in dual capacities. She was the Compliance Assistant for all varsity sports as well as Assistant Cross Country/ Track & Field coach. She coached the Cross Country team to 2 conference titles.

In 2005, she earned a Liberal Arts Degree from Lincoln University (Jefferson City, MO) where she was a member of 3 NCAA Division II National Championship in Track & Field. In 2010, Katari graduated from Georgia State University with a Master’s in Sports Administration.

Currently, she serves on the NCAA D2 Culture of Compliance Think Tank, the Regional Advisory Committee for Tennis. She is a member of the NCAA Leadership Institute and Women Leader in College Sports Institute.
