July 27, 2012 - Letter to the Morehouse Community (pdf)

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Morehouse College Presidential Search.

On January 30, 2012, Dr. Robert M. Franklin ’75, the 10th president of Morehouse, announced his plans to transition from the presidency in June 2012.  Dr. Franklin has agreed that he will remain in the role as president until a new president is chosen, but no later than the end of 2012.

During his five-year tenure, Dr. Franklin has led the College through the quiet phase of a new capital campaign and changed the narrative about Morehouse, which has enhanced public perception. The College was reaffirmed for accreditation in 2009 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Franklin also inspired efforts that increased alumni giving and accelerated the College’s social media presence.

A Presidential Search Committee, led by Board of Trustees Chairman Robert C. Davidson ’67, has been established by the Board of Trustees to lead the search effort for a successor. The 13-member search committee is comprised of a cross-section of Board members representing alumni, faculty and students.

The search committee has selected Heidrick & Struggles International, Inc., a premier international executive search firm with more than 55 years of experience in executive search and leadership consulting services. The firm has worked with search committees to identify outstanding leaders for a variety of private and public colleges and universities, as well as education-related institutions.
