President John Silvanus Wilson Jr. ’79 to Serve Through End of Contract

Date Released: March 8, 2017

Morehouse College has issued the following statement to clarify the College’s leadership and transition plan:

Morehouse College Board of Trustee Chaiman Robert C. Davidson, Jr. said Wednesday that President John Wilson will fulfill the remainder of his contract and serve as President of the College until June 30, 2017.

“To further clarify my recent letter to the Morehouse community, President Wilson will begin to transition his day-to-day responsibilities to William “Bill” Taggart, Morehouse College Chief Operating Officer, in order to ensure a smooth transition of leadership when President Wilson’s contract expires this June. The Board will meet in April to consider its decision regarding the appointment of an Interim President. Until then, Dr. John Wilson and Bill Taggart will continue to work together while serving in their respective roles as President of Morehouse College and Chief Operating Officer,” Davidson said.

The two leaders said they will continue their work to ensure that Morehouse remains a world class institution of higher learning that grooms future leaders both domestically and globally.

“I look forward to fulfilling my contract as President of Morehouse,” said Wilson.  “There is still much to be accomplished in the next four months.  I have the utmost respect for Bill Taggart, who is a key part of the leadership team at Morehouse.  I have already begun to work with Bill and the Committee to ensure a smooth transition.”

“I’m honored by the Committee’s consideration to become interim President in July.  I am currently focused on my duties as Morehouse Chief Operating Officer and working with President Wilson on the priority issues facing Morehouse today,” said Taggart.
