Traffic and Campus Early Closure

Date Released: January 8, 2018

Morehouse Community:

Please be advised that on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, roadways in the vicinity of Morehouse College and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium will experience heavy traffic due to fans attending the College Football Playoff National Championship.

President Donald Trump is expected to be among the attendees at Monday's game between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide at the stadium at 1414 Andrew Young International Blvd NW. The President's arrival will cause road closures around the stadium and at nearby highway exit ramps. Traffic near Morehouse College will be impacted.

As a result, Morehouse College will close today at 3:30 p.m. for nonessential personnel. J-Mester faculty and essential personnel may leave campus at 4 p.m. Spelman College and the Morehouse School of Medicine will also close early, as well as City of Atlanta and state governmental offices.

Local authorities are encouraging people who work near Mercedes-Benz Stadium to consider using MARTA to travel to their offices on Monday. Traffic is expected to be gridlocked with fans who plan to arrive early for tailgate activities and other festivities.
The Game Day Schedule is below:
  • 3 p.m. – Box Office and Ticket Windows Open
  • 5:30 p.m. – Stadium Gates Open
  • 7:30 p.m. – Pregame Show
  • 8 p.m. – 2018 National Championship Game
Please plan your travel routes and times to ensure punctual arrivals.
