The Boil Water Advisory is lifted for our area.
May 1, 2016
Saturday evening, the downtown Atlanta area was hit by severe storms that resulted in the loss of power as a power surge caused an outage at a large water pump station. The Atlanta University Center, including Morehouse College, was one of the areas impacted.
While power had been restored, Atlanta officials said there was a temporary loss of pressure in the drinking water system feeding the downtown area. They have asked all of those affected by the power outage to boil their water before consumption.
Boil water advisories are put into place in an abundance of caution so water samples can be tested. Customers should boil water for one minute past a rolling boil before using it for cooking, drinking or brushing teeth. You do not need to boil water to shower, wash dishes or water plants.
According to Atlanta officials, the advisory will not be lifted before midnight Sunday.
At Morehouse College, bottled water will be distributed at Chivers Dining Hall. Students should make their way to Chivers, with your student ID, to get water to drink and to brush your teeth.
We will inform you when the advisory is lifted and it is safe to drink tap water.
